Jack Trout Signature Package

Los Rios Rivers District Chile Fly Fishing and Lodging

Our home base is in-between Pucon and Puerto Varas, Chile where we provide fly fishing anglers the opportunity to float or wade fish several rivers just east of Valdivia & Osorno Chile. The fly fishing is excellent here from November through April with a variety of rivers that offer dry fly, nymphing and streamers. Any skill level can be accommodated and welcomed! We have gear available and hand tie all our own flies for each of the rivers we guide on in the Patagonia. We pick folks up from Valdivia or Puerto Montt airports. This is our 21st season of outfitting, guiding and lodging in Chile.

Jack  Trout, Chilean Guides have developed a weekly package that is unsurpassed in regards to fly fishing several rivers, accommodations and quality of guides in Southern Chile's premier fly fishing destinations. Visit up to 6 different rivers in one week!

WE OFFER SINGLE DAY FLOAT TRIPS FOR 2 ANGLERS ~ $650 USD ON ALL CHILEAN RIVERS ~ ALL GEAR AND FLIES INCLUDED

Save on excessive airfare baggage fees. We rent all fly fishing gear & sizes to make your travels in Chile simple.

Jack first became interested in Chile when he learned the McCloud River Rainbow was their first Rainbow to be transported in the southern hemisphere in the late 1800's. Wanting to offer fellow anglers a package that was affordable yet encompassed a true value by "touring people to many rivers and seeing not just part but many locations in the Patagonia. The rivers we fish offer some of the best fly fishing for trophy trout known in the world".

Fly into Puerto Montt Lakes District of and we will pick you up at the airport an take you to our lodging in Puerto Varas with spectacular views of Lago Llanquihue and the Volcano Osorno. Fly into Valdivia Chile and we'll pick you up at the airport or help arrange a car rental. * This place makes sense especially if you plan to visit and fly fish Junin de los Andes and San Martin de los Andes in Argentina, just 3 hours from us.

Imagine yourself fly fishing your favorite rivers in the 1800's and you can imagine yourself alone with your guide somewhere out in Patagonia. Unbelievable dry fly action awaits you in the Andes mountain range with scenic beauty that one could only dream about until experienced. We offer drifting down the Rio Simpson. You can expect 10 to 40 fishing days on both drys and nymphs, you'll be mainly catching Browns and McCloud River Rainbows average 2 to 8 pounds. Your lodging is located on the Rio Simpson and puts you only minutes from launch. The area is green and lush. We will also visit the Rio Paloma, royal humpys do the trick here, don't go too small 6's & 8's work best! This river is located way out in one of the most remote areas I've ever been to, and offers world class angling. The Rio Nirequao, probably the world's best Hopper fishery, offers 30 plus days for Browns and is Chile's first catch and release river as of two years ago. This is totally different terrain being in a high desert region.

It reminds me of parts of Montana. Coyhaique Alto is another high desert location we travel to, but this is a small caulk stream that offers Browns that range from 13 to 18 inches all on the surface. Last year, our guides discovered several rivers up the Chilean coast that offer fantastic fly fishing for Sea-run Browns and Steelhead, as well as Rainbows and Salmon. You will have the time of your life drifting and fishing these remote rivers with the most talented guides in the area. Lodging includes cabins located on the Rio Simpson, all meals are included and are exquisite. We can even head in to town to satisfy any non-anglers by sharing in the Chilean way of life, a little sightseeing and shopping. We aim to please and we want to express what an extreme pleasure it is to be your guide in Chile November-March annually. With over 20 years experience, our guide Nicolas will put you on many dry fly opportunities around the Coyhaique area of Chile.

Testimonial Letter

Jack,

Now that I have made it back home and have caught up with my work I have the time to send you an E-mail. What a trip, it was more than I expected. I was expecting to fish, which I did for 10 days out of the two weeks I was there.

I wanted something other than the fishing trip where you are picked up at the airport and taken to a lodge and the only time you leave the lodge is when you are fishing. This may be good for a trip to Alaska where you are miles from civilization but not for a trip to Chile. I wanted to see and learn about local culture, to experience the food, to go to the small towns not just the big cities and most of all meet the people. You more than helped me to experience the kind of trip I wanted. Your knowledge of Chile amazed me, not just the culture, your knowledge of the volcanos, the mountains and the rivers was amazing. But I guess having a local as a wife has helped. Speaking of your wife. She made staying at your house almost too enjoyable. The meals she prepared for our lunch were great. I have never had a guide set up a table on an island in the middle a river and serve a hot meal with the local wine like you did. I was also not prepared for my bed to be made and my clothes washed like they were. And she was an asset when we would eat in a restaurant since I still wonder what we ordered in Argentina when the waiter started laughing so hard. And I want to thank her personally for helping me pick out the gifts for my wife and daughter they both loved their necklaces and ear rings and I'm sure they are still wondering how I would think of such good gifts. We just will not tell them how reasonably priced they were.

It was your 15 years of guiding in Chile that made the fishing part of the trip fun and easy. I never thought I would be fishing 8 rivers and 2 lakes over the two weeks I was down there. Most fishing trips I have been on you might fish two or three rivers and if the fishing is good on one river the guide would take you back to that river day after day. Nice, but the way you did it I was able to experience so many different types of rivers from the mighty Rio San Pedro (reminded me of the lower Sacramento River in California) which your house over looks to my favorite the Rio Maullin down by Puerto Montt which is more like a jungle. Not only the different rivers the different types of fishing I was able to experience because each river and lake we fished required a variation of fly fishing. I liked how we started with pulling streamers, got into nimps and finished with using dry fly in Argentina. The different types of fish were also a surprise to me. Watching those massive Pacific salmon swimming up the Rio San Pedro was a thrill but catching an Atlantic salmon a few days later was a bigger thrill. Hooking an 18 inch German Brown with a streamer was fun but hooking a 24 inch on a dry fly in Argentina was a thrill of a life time.

I can not wait to fish with you on the upper Sacramento River it has been one of my dream locations but only fishing the lower part has been the extent of my fishing on that river. I have been told by other fishermen the upper Sac is the place for big fish but it takes a good guide since it is not a drift but a rafting adventure. I have been told it can be a little scary with the rapids. After fishing with you I have put the upper Sacramento River back on my list of places to fish. I would feel very safe with you so I plan on getting back with you after your back in California to set up a trip.

Thanks again for the trip (adventure) of a life time.
May life be good and the fishing even better.

Fly Fishing Patagonia from Punta Arenas – Tripadvisor Review

I contacted Jack after a lot of research on fishing guides in Patagonia and boy did it payoff! I was a little worried at first because

1) we were on a cruise ship which meant tight schedule. and

2) the day of our port was Christmas Day.

Neither of these proved to be issues and everything went smoothly. Communication is excellent, Jack or his wife are very responsive, i had no issues getting answers to m questions. Everything is in order and super smooth from initial booking, to meeting details, to sizing equipment. They hooked us up with a fantastic guide in Punta Arenas, Rafael.

He was knowledgeable not just about fishing but about the area, he was funny, and he was a great sandwich maker!! On the way to the river, he had no issue telling us about the area or pulling over to show us things, we saw wild flamingos, parrots, rheas, ducks, and a blue eagle! Once on the water he had all the gear we needed, everything fit perfectly. He had me on my first Patagonia trout with in 15 minutes of getting on the water! 18.5" I am a seasoned fly fisherman but this was my wife’s first attempt.

He was very patient with her and was a great teacher! She was on a fish not long after my first! We each caught 3 trout, my wife caught two 20 inchers! Rafael also had a fantastic lunch for us, like i said expert sandwich maker! He was punctual, met us on time and had us back to the boat on time, big deal as like i said we were on a tight schedule being on a cruise ship. I have hired a few guides in my time, but Jack/Rafael were hands down the best i have every had. I will be planning a trip to California to have Jack put me on some big Rainbows!

Andros has the highest concentration of Blue Hole in the world. Exposed to the elements over thousands of years, the island’s limestone bedrock eroded creating this vast expanse of underwater cave systems. These caves have been found to house many unusual and unique cave fish and invertebrates, some not found anywhere else in the world. This park protects a large quantity of blue holes, surrounding rich coppice and pristine pineland forests and part of Andros’ extensive fresh-water lens.

My brother and I were planning a trip to Chile and have always loved to fly fish so we searched online and found Jack Trouts website about fly fishing in Patagonia! We couldn't pass up the offer. He set us up with his main guide Tolin in Coyhaique who got us out fishing with Pancho! Pancho picked us up at our hostel at 8 in the morning sharp to where he took us out to some amazingly beautiful rivers in the Patagonia wilderness. Pancho had some of the BEST knowledge for fly fishing that I've ever heard (and my brother was a guide in Alaska) he was amazing teacher of Chilean culture, the patagonia land and most of all Rainbow and Brown trout. Our first spot we went to we quickly got into some big Browns to where we fished all morning. Then had a delicious home cooked Chilean meal for lunch with wine and beer. After lunch we moved onto another river where we hammered them! I highly recommended these guys, they know their stuff and are amazing conservationists for the Trout in Patagonia and the sport of fly fishing! And he had some great tips for me on my cast that really help and I can tell he's a great teacher for beginners as well! Pancho was such a great guy to me and my brother I couldn't think of a better day out there. I can't wait to be back to go out with him again!! Patagonia fly fishing at Its finest!!
