McCloud River Fly Fishing Guides - McCloud, Mount Shasta, Dunsmuir Area - Upper McCloud, Lower McCloud, Ash Camp, Ah Di Nah Campground, Nature Conservancy.

The McCloud River starts it’s decent from way up high on Mount Shasta from pure glaciers high in mineral content, that’s what makes it California’s only turquoise colored river. Through aquifers that are actually hollowed out ancient lava tubes it flows underground for more than 20 miles down highway 89 out to some meadows where it percolates out of the ground and flows through 3 waterfalls on the Upper McCloud River. The Lower McCloud River below the McCloud River Dam offers miles of trails and accessible trout water were guiding on by hiking steep cliffs and hoping around serpentine boulders looking for the right riffle, best pocket water or pool to nymph, dry fly fish or streamer fish . This river always has a best side to fish from and we know the right places to access these great McCloud River Rainbow Trout.

We are experts in instructing parent-youth in fly fishing, the McCloud River is a great place to go. We always have gear available, other wise wet wading in the summer with neoprene socks and wading boots works fine. We suggest using a wading staff on the McCloud River, it can be slippery, wood is always better over metal.
