Jack Trout, owner and guide, started fishing Northern California streams and rivers as a youngster, with his father, a fishing guide on the Feather River in the little town of Portola, California.
For over 16 years Jack has guided and outfitted in the Mt Shasta area and as far away places as Chile, Argentina and Belize. He has been featured on Fly fishing shows such as ESPN, Outdoor Life Network, Fine Living Network and PBS, as well as written about in the San Francisco Chronicle and San Jose Mercury. Jack can be heard by thousands on the Fishing Report Show weekly out of San Francisco on KNBR 680 AM (the sports leader)! His passions are people and teaching fly fishing. He is an expert oarsmen and is a certified class 4 rafting guide as well. Jack has fly fished all over the world in 23 countries. On many of these trips Jack was the client, scrutinizing his guides to determine what he liked and disliked about each one, giving him the opportunity to develop and offer one of the best client-oriented guide services available. Jack is always enthusiastic with his clients and is very good at listening to and answering questions. He willingly shares his knowledge and is always empathetic to individual needs. Kayla Katayama was born on Oahu, Hawaii where she learned to stalk the flats for fish with her dad at a very young age. Kayla is now a full time student at CSU Chico with a major in Liberal Studies and plans on becoming an elementary school teacher, in addition to guiding in Northern California. Not only is Kayla passionate about working with young students, she is also passionate about guiding and takes every opportunity she can to expand her fly fishing skills. Since living in Chico, she guides the Lower Sacramento River and Feather River out of her drift boat, in addition to teaching small stream clinics on Deer Creek and Upper Sacramento River. Kayla is a versatile angler, and can also be found out on Lake Oroville targeting aggressive bass on the fly. When Kayla is not in the classroom, guiding, she spends her time chasing fish and rowing her drift boat with her dog, Finley.
Out on the water, Kayla values fun, learning, conservation, safety, and helping to create memories that will last an angler a lifetime.
Dale Langstaff ~ Born and raised in Mount Shasta, Dale began fishing streams with his father as a youngster and always kept in mind that some day it would be great to become a guide.
Dale has fished every major stream in the region for years and is known well throughout Siskiyou and Shasta County for his angling skills and his patience to instruct beginners and novices with his gentle nature approach he takes when sharing his art. Dale always loved the Burney area as a kid, he and his brother would spend hours out on all the rivers, fishing and learning. Dale is now a master on the Pit River, Fall River and Hat Creek, a few years back he moved over there so he could be closer to his life long endeavor, learning the many secrets of the Burney/ McCloud area. Dale also floats the Lower Sacramento River, Klamath River , Trinity River and Pit River. You’ll have a great day out on the waters with guide Dale Langstaff, many are returning again soon after.
Forrest Brizendine ~ Born and raised in Redding he discovered the love for fishing at a very young age. He enlisted in the Navy after High School then played college football for Shasta College against Aaron Rodgers. Shortly after that decided to follow his passion and become a Fishing Guide. There's not a water in the North state he hasn't fished, walked or explored. Whether you choose a day on the Upper or Lower Sacramento River, Trinity River, Klamath River, Lakes or Ponds just to list a few, and not to mention the waters only some locals know about. Jim Pettis ~ Guide / Fly Fishing Instructor / Inventor ~ Jim is a Redding area native who grew up along the banks of the Sacramento River his whole life. Ryan Williams born and raised in Vacaville California, Ryan spent his teenage years fly fishing Putah Creek every chance he had. Ryan’s fly career began in 2004 when he landed a job in a fly shop at the age of 16 in Napa. Shortly after, being very familiar with Putah Creek, he began guiding. Eventually, moving to Chico Ryan decided to put his walk/wade guiding on the back burner to focus on college and learn new local waters. While going to college, he decided to put his drift boat to use. He’d been rowing for the past 6 years plus and he began his guiding career for the second time. He has since moved out to Lake Oroville and guiding full time, and has become a serious fly tier. Ryan primarily focuses on the Lower Sacramento and Feather Rivers. He is also an avid striper and bass fly angler, and enjoys drifting for shad. He’s known for his ability to catch bass on a fly all winter long on Lake Oroville, and he’s currently pioneering Clear Lake with a fly rod. Ryan has a vast arsenal of tricks for just about all fish species, and any situation in Northern California. He has a true passion for passing on his knowledge. He has devoted his life to fly fishing with zero regrets. A big enthusiast of teaching beginner’s of whatever ages, and he will have allot to bring to the table for even the most veteran of anglers.
Nick Stetser raised in Northern California, Fly fishing Guide Nick Stetser grew up fishing all the local streams and rivers in cailiforna and has honed his skills over many years. Nick concentrates most of his time fly fishing the Lower Sacramento and Klamath rivers but also does trips on the feather river as well as walk and wade trips for steelhead. Nick welcomes all skill levels from expert anglers to first time on the water he will make sure everyone has a outstanding day on the water!
Ian Stratte was born in Trinidad, California in the early 1980's. You could say, that this is where his adventure and his love for water resonates from. While growing up listening to and playing around the ocean waves everyday. He and his family moved to Redding, California when he was 4. Ian's father Lars, loved showing him all the fishing spots he had frequented as a boy growing up in Northern California instilling in him his passion and respect for the outdoors. Lars educated Ian on the waters of Northern California placing him on a forward journey, discovering these liquid gems he found an extreme passion for fishing as well as the environment. After a tragic accident and the loss of his father at 18, Ian found it impossible to try and enjoy the one thing that he loved doing with his father, fishing. Ian took almost 7 years to return back to the waters that would orchestrate the rest of his life. An internal compass on his adventure that has guided him through rough times and returned his drive to be the greatest version of himself. His fathers voice would play on, through his best friend and guide mentor Forrest Brizendine. He guided Ian back to the water in a way that would anchor him solidly. Since then Ian has been back on the water experiencing something new almost daily. Being actively involved in services that protect our water and preserving future generations of anglers. While guiding for the past year he has found a love of sharing the passion that was instilled in him by his father and rekindled by friendship. Ian loves fishing but most of all he enjoys sharing the passion and creating the lasting memories on the water.
Kenton Bansemer When he was 7 years old his father and family moved from Sacramento to the Lower Klamath river and bought a fishing lodge. Kenton soon became very familiar with the area as his love began with fishing the Klamath, Smith & Chetco rivers. As a teenager he became a guide helping his father on trips and refining his knowledge of all the area rivers. Kenton has now become a premier guide on the North Coast of California and is highly revered by his past clientele and Jack Trout Fly Fishing for quality guiding trips, equipment and lodging on the Klamath Rivers. Zachariah 'Z' Stone Silver Born and raised in Northern California, Z lives in Graeagle, California, he started fishing around the age of 3 in Plumas County and neighboring areas. Growing up along the Feather River, Lake Davis and Truckee Rivers, Z has naturally been exploring the tributaries, rivers and high mountain lakes for the last 30+ years with fly rod in hand. Z is extremely insightful in fly fishing, equipment, locations and technique as well as having a deep knowledge of the area wildlife and plant species.
Chris Wharton Our Head Guide Chris Wharton has been guiding the Reno/Tahoe & outlying areas for over 18 yrs. He guides on the Truckee in both California & Nevada and does one person floats or two person wading. He also guides Lake Davis, Pyramid Lake and many other high mountain trophy lakes in Nevada & California.
Jon Baiocchis Has been guiding Sierra streams for decades, his guiding and expertise is legendary on the Feather River, Yuba Rivers and the Little Truckee and Main Truckee River. Mario Gomez Born and raised on the Klamath River in Happy Camp, CA, I grew up on the creeks and rivers fishing for salmon, trout. and steelhead. Rafael Gonzalez “Rfaspey”, is the founder of the first lodge in Rio Grande, Tierra del Fuego – Punta Arenas Chile.
